DIARY

- Yesterday was somewhat uneventful at work. I finished indexing the Earth Sciences diagrams (learning about the longest rivers, the tallest mountains (which are all in the Himalayas), and the comparative sizes of the continents. After work, however, I caught the N train to Union Square and walked to Veselka's at 2nd Ave. and 9th St. There, I met Gemma and her mother, and we were later joined by her sister Hallie. Gemma's been in town for the holidays, and just for this small window our paths coincided. We hung out at the restaurant for awhile, then Gemma and I moved along to Alphabet City where her friend was launching a variety show. Afterwards we moved downstairs to the bar and got inmeshed in a conversation writing and publishing. Later Jess arrived, and after we collectively caught up, we started making a list of victories for Knowledge and Ignorance. This morphed into a list of alternate movie titles (eg. King Kong -> Monkey on the Empire State Building), which morphed again into further extrapolations of titles for Snakes on a Plane sequels (eg. the Hamlet version: Snake is a Dane). Gemma walked us to the subway. We took the J to the Q to DeKalb and got home by around 12:15. Not bad, adventure wise, for a weeknight!
- ASTRONOMY - I missed the Quadrantids this year, though with the cloud cover and city light, I don't know that there was much to see. Did you see them?
- WEATHER - New England is going to feel a quick storm with a few inches of snow, but no sign yet of whether it will touch down here. Right now it's gray and blustery, but not too cold. "The sharper the blast, the sooner it's past."
- JANUARY - Is the month of Hobbies.
- TODAY - Is Organize Your Home Day.
- HAPPY BIRTHDAY - Alvin Ailey, Umberto Eco, and Diane Keaton.

QUESTION OF THE DAY
What other movies might me salvage from overly subtle and intricate titles, and how might we do so? Feel free to post numerous answers.

END OF POST.
