- This Past Weekend. Friday, I got out of work early and headed back up north to get some things done around the apartment. Instead, I took a two hour nap, but woke up stress free, which was to be a major theme of the weekend. I fixed a meal of spaghetti and garlic bread for Jess and Sam, and then Jess and I returned to Hyde Park. Around eleven, we made our way to Moomer's for his Friday the 13th party. It was a diverse crowd but we managed to evade any conversation not dealing with scavhunt. (It's really difficult at this time of year to maintain any sort of public writing that does not convey the obsessiveness this event inspires). We got to talk alot about how it went back in the stone age, and the development of the road trip. I left around three.
- The next day I slept and slept and slept, and slept in as long as I could possibly want, and took naps throughout the day. Jess and I still managed to find time to take her car to Sears to get her flat tire replaced (for free!) with the requisite stop at White Castle on the way back, to have a nice Chicken Helper dinner, and to watch Backdraft, which I haven't seen in about a decade.
- The next day, I also slept, waking up just in time to go to church. I all but assaulted poor Fr. Mulhall in the Narthex after the service with questions about the wedding service, then hit 57th street books to pick up a couple on moving to NYC, and got a cup of coffee from Uncle Joe's. Then, I picked up Jessica, we went to Thalia's 2nd birthday party at Mike and Jen's (great combos of Becks and cake! An engrossing baby toys!) and we visited with them, and with Nick, Ann, Meridith, Andrea and Clinton, Arthur, and others I'm probably neglecting. In the end, Jess lent me her car, so I dropped her off at the Co-Op, drove back home (with an overheating mishap on the Gold Cost) and spent the evening soaking in a warm bath and reading about cheap neighborhoods for renting in NYC. (Answer. There are none.) Now it's Monday, and I'm a little drowsy on four hours sleep, but it's well balanced by the rest of the weekend.

- Weathorr Report. The Eastern U.S. is caught in a sort of spin machine at the moment. A low pressure front is moving east over the coast, driving the rain onto the ocean, allowing in sunlight and warming New England and the mid-Atlantic states. This, however, opens up space for a high pressure area. Winds will dip in from Canada, moving clockwise, blow east through the central south, and up through the great plains. As a result, the East Coast will cool, the Plains will warm, and who knows what will happen in Chicago. As expected. Still, it looks cool as Hell on the map.
- Astronomically speaking, this week. Today, the moon enters the first quarter, and this Thursday (the 19th) Jupiter is visible 3 degrees north of the moon.
