Scavhunt 2006, Post #5. Friday.

CONCEPT

Also known as Trip to Chicago, Part 11.

Photos here do not represent the most extensive documentation of these events.
For a more comprehensive catalogue, please see the Offical Scavhunt Gallery.

Later in the Hunt, I started forgetting to take my camera to events. As a result, my photos become more sporadic.

When we woke up on Friday morning, Jess and I stopped by Tom's to take a shower, then meandered down to the Quads for the Maxwell Street fair. The rain and cold weather had continued and trade was light. As a result, the (ever-resourceful) teams directed more of their attention to their public performances, which became both more numerous and elaborate.

At one, we moved along to item #278.

278. _____
O, callooh! Callay!
What a frabjous day!
Send one Poet Laureate
A-frolickin' our way
To receive a List, pray
At half-past ten
On the morn of Thursday
In the beauteous gardens
Of the Midway. [a points]

Basically each team had to supply a poet who would compose poems in the form of haikus, teen-angst piece, and epic three-page pieces. Magnetic poetry was also involved, and rapping at the party, but most of these pieces were performed in public at the Second Floor Coffee Shop (which was renamed Uncle Joe's, and then again ranamed Sacred Ground... to me it's still the Second Floor Coffee Shop). Jess and I sat in the back.

This is Pranks, from Snitchcock, who I later faced off against in a battle.

After the poets went up, we judges conferred for a long time on the party, finalizing the decision to move it to Cobb. More on this later. We also took some galvanizing photographs in the hallway leading to Mandel hall. Then, we walked to the 57th Street Beach to judge an item.

30. _____ Create the World, Dubai style. [41 points]

I wasn't present at meetings, and never had this item fully explained to me, but the result was pretty cool: a "map" of the world drawn reasonably to scale in the sand. This was more than a half-hour effort:

The creature itself.

On the way back we stopped at a hip new cafe that's opened under the Metra tracks.

END OF POST.
